My name is Simon Ouderkirk. I’ve had an awful lot of jobs, but the vast majority of them have been in the coffee industry, specifically the inspiring corner of the coffee industry in the US that is doing new and progressive things with their preparation, approach, and vision of how coffee can impact the world.
I believe that coffee, especially progressive coffee, is a source of great good in the world. It allows for stability in sometimes unstable places, it allows the wealth of the West to benefit some of the poorest nations on earth, and it helps to keep us connected to the rest of humanity around the globe through consumption, purchasing, and wondering. I believe that the better we get at making coffee and selling coffee to our customers, the more good we will be able to do with coffee. Progressive coffee is a great global force for good.
I am an active member of the Barista Guild of America. I regularly teach classes for the Specialty Coffee Association of America. I’ve put together training plans as small as a single class and as large as a full-scale certification program for a multi-unit retail joint.
I believe that my experience in the coffee industry can help you. I want to see you and your staff succeed, not just in making delicious coffee, but also financially. Every shop, every operation is unique. I selfishly hope that I can help the Capital Region (and possibly beyond!) blossom into a real bright spot of excellent coffee culture and outstanding cups of coffee.
I live in Saratoga Springs, NY, with my wonderful wife and a moderately overweight cat.
